Fouling.
A plague for every boat and every owner. While anti-fouling can be so easy
Fouling is the undesired settlement of marine organisms on surfaces under water. It is a natural process, because it’s the only way for algae, mussels etc. to proliferate. Usually owners of ships and ponds are rarely happy about fouling as this kind of settlement causes high cleansing expenditure and higher wear of the materials.
The presently available products against fouling try to either inhibit sticking by utilizing smooth surfaces or to directly kill the organisms by the use of toxic paints. The disadvantages are obvious: Big expenditure, recurring costs and ecological damage caused by poisonous materials polluting lakes and seas.
The Foulfree System chooses a different approach: it establishes a kind of "magic mile" around the object to be protected. Linking together two copper electrodes by electricity, clouds of copper ions are generated in the water around the hull of the boat. This is a hostile atmosphere for algae and mussels and efficiently prevents settlement.
